Boston Applied Technologies, Incorporated Introduced Nanona? Ultra-fast Optical Switch at 2008 OFC/NFOEC

Woburn, MA (PRWEB) March 1, 2008 -- Boston Applied Technologies, Incorporated (BATi), a leading provider of high performance optical communication devices, has introduced it's newest development -- the Nanona?, an ultra-fast fiber optical switch with a switching speed less than 50 nano second, at the 2008 OFC/NFOEC, San Diego, CA.

The introduction of Nanona? optical switch will expand BATi's product portfolio beyond its current Eclipse? light intensity controlling devices, Acrobat? polarization management devices, and Equinox? wavelength profiling devices. The Nanona? switch has no moving parts or organic materials. It has lower optical insertion loss, much faster speed and more reliable switching compared to competing optical switching technologies. The switch provides solutions to managing fiber optic connections, monitoring optical performance, and sharing vital resources for a wide variety of applications in telecommunication networks, defense/government, medical/bio-technology and instrumentation industries. BATi has started delivering Nanona? switches to its first-tier customers.

A Brief History on the Naming of Nanona?:

The NANONA optical switch is primarily named after "onona," a composite word of the ancient Balkan words "on" & "ona" that has a similar meaning to that of the Chinese composite word "yinyang" (yin & yang), which in turn has a famous symbol of two halves colored in black and in white. The optical switch's two optical states, dark and bright, were first related to the symbol of yinyang, and later the word onona. It was then further revised to NANONA to include the new switch's feature of fast switching speed in nano seconds.

About BATi:

Boston Applied Technologies, Incorporated (BATi) was formed in 2002 by the key management and technical team formerly with Corning Applied Technologies, a subsidiary of Corning Incorporated. With many year's development effort and a group of industry pioneers, BATi has established a unique leading position in designing, manufacturing and marketing a variety of light and polarization management components for telecommunication and instrumentation markets.
