New VP Propels Boston Engineering Toward Technology Incubation - Fred Becker Brings Energy-management Engineering Focus to BEC
Boston, MA (PRWeb) December 17, 2006 -- Boston Engineering has hired experienced technology manager, Frederick E. Becker, as Vice President of Technology Development to foster the company's continued growth in emerging technology incubation. Over the past 23 years, Becker has headed a number of successful projects that received millions of dollars in federal and private investor funding, predominantly for advanced energy-based technologies.
What is the key to success in bringing new technology to the market? It's more than just having a new idea, according to Becker. "Successful innovation involves solving problems directly in line with the desires of the market," said Becker. "Boston Engineering's systems approach lends itself to that sort of development."
At Boston Engineering, Becker will help the company identify marketable technologies and grow the R&D business. "Fred brings an established track record of developing marketable technologies to Boston Engineering," said Mark Smithers, Vice President and COO of Boston Engineering. "His broad-based knowledge will help us apply our systems engineering expertise to solve problems that lead to new business opportunities."
Having worked for Ovation Products Corporation and Thermo Electron Corporation, Becker's past experience includes directing the development of an advanced micro-distillation wastewater purification system, securing funding and support for the development of a large-scale natural gas cogeneration system, and creating an innovative technique to produce and store hydrogen more effectively. His experience in the environmental arena also includes obtaining more than $15 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy for advanced residential, industrial and utility emissions control technologies and successfully managing a $3 million DARPA proposal for the Technology Development for Immune Buildings program.
With Becker on board, Boston Engineering is positioned to address energy-management engineering problems. "The next technology forefront will be energy-related," said Becker. "We are looking to identify technology-based opportunities that are just over the horizon, but not too far in the future. You have to be somewhat visionary. If everyone else sees it, then you're too late."
